See · hear · feel

A gallery. A stage. A generation with something to say.

A painting can hold a question. A song can make it heard. A performance can help an adult see school life through different eyes. Here, artistic quality and meaningful expression belong together.

The work you will encounter

The Gallery of What We Needed to Say brings together visual art, photography, sculpture, installations, film, animation and design. The live programme makes room for music, theatre, dance, spoken word and creative writing.

The question comes before the medium

Schools work within one of five creative themes. Students can choose the art form that best carries their message, develop it with teachers and creative mentors, and explain what they want an audience to understand or do.

A public platform with care

School curation and festival review check safety, originality, rights, consent and practical requirements before presentation. Selection is subject to programme capacity. The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is the selected exhibition venue, subject to agreement; the live-performance venue will be announced.
