Our story

The learner behind the results matters as much as the results.

Young people need room to think, create, connect and recover. They also need adults who can hear what they are communicating. The Matters That Count brings those needs together through the arts.

Lomagundi College presents

An anchor for
a shared ambition.

Lomagundi College

Presenting Anchor School and founding institutional host.

Under the leadership of Principal Ms Nellie Nyeke, Lomagundi College provides the founding institutional home for the festival’s school partnership. Its culture, arts, safeguarding and marketing leads help shape a credible school experience.

The public festival is planned for Harare. Lomagundi’s founding role is distinct from the festival’s public venues.

Originated by Pamumvuri PVO

Creativity opens
a practical pathway.

Pamumvuri PVO and Festival Architect Tapiwa Chinyadza originated the initiative to connect mental wealth with the outcomes young people, families and schools care about: learning, relationships, creativity, agency and future readiness.

What we mean by mental wealth

The capacity to think, create, connect, recover and perform sustainably.

The festival supports that capacity through meaningful creative work, structured conversations, trusted adults and continuing school action. It does not ask art to diagnose a student or replace professional care.

What change would look like

Students have more ways to express ideas and seek support. Adults respond with greater understanding. Schools carry useful practices forward. These are intended outcomes to examine, not results already claimed for an inaugural event.

Our guiding idea

Better ships.
Not calmer seas.

We cannot remove every pressure from a young person’s life. We can help build the skills, relationships and support that make those pressures more navigable.
